Skin by Grimes is one of my favourite songs. I find myself to drawn to darker, more melancholy music (I’m so much fun at parties) and Skin really is one of those tracks. It’s all about unrequited love of the modern kind – sleeping with someone in in the blind hope that they’ll feel something for you back, but knowing deep down that they won’t.
If the original track was about the situation happening in the present tense, Four Tet’s remix is the aftermath. It injects more energy and even gets a bit dizzying at points. It’s that night out you’ve gone on to forget everything, but in the peak of all the alcohol and drugs you’re just thinking of the things you didn’t say and the things you’ll never say – you know, doing what our generation is so good at doing.
